Child birthing class

So....I'm new to this whole birthing experience. I've been trying to decide whether or not to go to a child birthing class. Tucker thinks its a waste of time, but I think it could be good to know about. There is a part of me that thinks that as well but I'm just not quite sure what to do.

This is why I have come to you all. What do you guys think about child birthing classes? Good, bad, helpful, stupid? What??

didn't take them due to the fact i was in the hospital during that time and I had a c-section. But I would have taken the class. And who cares what Tucker thinks ;) he is not going through labor.

I took one before my first child, but didn't use any of the information for the actual process, nor did they tell me anything really that I hadn't read in "What to Expect When You're Expecting". They did include a tour of the hospital, but you can get those for free... without the $60 spent and 4weeks of classes.

I recommend taking the class. I didn't use any of the techniques with Teaghan, but ended up using them with a vengeance with brittnee. You never know when one of your kids will decide to come VERY fast. The breathing helped soooo much! And even now the breathing comes in handy when dealing with your kids! Ditto to what Elisha said, Tucker's not the one going through labor. Just don't let him be like Doug and watch basketball after you get the epidural. Don't give in!!! Drag him to the classes too. He'll come away with a newfound appreciation for what you're about to go through. (Sorry so long. Very opinionated; but you already know that!

We took the class and it was good! The teachers tend to like to preach their opinions on things though so you might want to decide on certain things before you go! (Like epidural, breast feeding, etc.) I kind of dreaded going cuz' it was pretty boring but it was a nice change of scenery when your pregnant and bored!

hmm.. we did them. I didn't necessarily find them to be very helpful but it gave me something to feel like I was doing to prepare for my baby, I did however find the ones on breastfeeding and infant care to be helpful.. my two cents.. =) o and trevor liked them? (and we did make some cool friends and we always had treats at the end of class)

I never took them, but I was a child development major in college and I saw all the videos, at least three times, that they show in the classes anyway. I ended up having a C-Section, but Mike would like to go to them the next time. I would recommed them, if you are on the fence about them. AND my father-in-law learned at theirs so Tucker WILL learn something.

Russ says the classes were a good idea. At the time, he wasn't quite as keen on attending as I was but came along anyway. His favorite part of the class was the relaxation techniques at the end -- he fell asleep every time.

As for me, we did the class with Gordo. I had an epidular and didn't really use any of the breathing, etc at the time. Since I was a beanie head and turned down the most beautiful of drugs (epidural) with the other two boys, the information from the class became EXTREMELY useful. I would recomend taking the class, but don't let the opinions of the instructor totally sway you. Epidurals are not all bad, episotimies are sometimes necessary (better a straight cut than a jagged tear), stitches are probably going to happen, and birth positions do not take away any pain.

Oh, I was seriously disturbed by the movies.... like white knuckles, queasy stomach, have to leave the room disturbed. The good news is you wont be seeing any of that while you are having a baby.

PS. Alright, in the interest of full disclosure... I did use the breathing with Gordon. However, I didn't need it for delivery. It is gross, but the first poo after a baby can be a doozy no matter how much fiber your mother pushes on you. Totally used the breathing exercises for that.

Personally I did not use any of the techniques they talked about in those classes. In fact I did not hear information that would help or assist me in anyway. So I recommend not taking the classes. My wife may have a different opinion.

P.S. I care what Tucker thinks, he has to sit through labor.

Instead of taking the classes maybe you should just go and pick these up, they are free:

I was on bedrest the last half of my pregnancy, so I rented the videos and while they were informative, they did not help me at all since I ended up having an emergency c-section.....but it is always good to be informed:)

TAKE A HYPNO-BIRTH CLASS! It's one of the best decisions I made involving my pregnancy. If you are willing to learn and open your mind, you will love it. It helps take the fear out of the whole experience.
